Hideo Kojima is stepping back into Metal Gear territory with his latest PlayStation 5 exclusive, and at this rate, he’ll be hiring half of Hollywood. Physint, developed by Kojima, will launch after OD, but we’ve already gotten a look at its cast and the game’s very first poster.
Although Kojima is closing the book on his most personal saga with Death Stranding 2, the Japanese auteur’s career is far from over: his future is already defined by two ambitious new titles. The first, OD, looks very much like the Silent Hills game he was never able to make, while Physint, still further off, is intended as a spiritual successor to Metal Gear Solid. And though its release is still years away, Kojima isn’t leaving fans completely in the dark: we’ve already seen its debut poster and a portion of its cast.
At an anniversary event in Japan celebrating ten years of Kojima Productions, the designer revealed that he’s only at the beginning stages of development, personally working on character creation and casting choices. “It’s just the beginning,” Kojima said, marking his return to the genre that made him famous through the Metal Gear franchise. Herman Hulst, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, also sent in a video message of support, further highlighting the close partnership between PlayStation and Kojima Productions.
According to Kojima, Physint is envisioned as a “next-generation tactical espionage action game”, built on technology more advanced than what powers Death Stranding and OD, the latter of which is being developed in parallel exclusively for Xbox. No release date was announced, but Kojima made it clear: OD will come first, and Physint will follow, leaving fans with plenty of time to speculate while waiting for further details.
