Forza Horizon 6: Will One Platform Be Left Out at First?

The new game from Playground Games and Turn 10 Studios (while the Fable reboot is also in development) will indeed take audiences to the country that rumors have been talking about…

Forza Horizon 6 will not be available on the PlayStation 5 at launch. The latest entry in the series, set in Japan, was announced this week during the Tokyo Game Show. Although no gameplay footage has been shown yet, the game is scheduled to release next year on Xbox Series X|S and PC. It will also arrive on PlayStation 5, but not at the same time as the Xbox and PC versions.

At the bottom of a blog post on Xbox Wire, there’s a note that reads: “Forza Horizon 6 will launch first on Xbox consoles and PC in 2026. Due to the popularity of the franchise on other platforms, Playground Games and Turn 10 Studios are working together to bring Forza Horizon 6 to PlayStation 5 after its initial release.” This surprised some gamers since Microsoft’s multiplatform strategy allowed DOOM: The Dark Ages to launch simultaneously on PlayStation 5, and The Outer Worlds 2 will follow the same path. Forza Horizon 6 will showcase both rural and urban areas of Japan, as art director Don Arceta explained on the Xbox Wire blog.

“While we can’t share too many details yet, we’re excited to show fans the true beauty of Japan’s natural and urban environments. From the neon lights and skyscrapers of Tokyo — our most detailed and layered environment to date — to the calm and scenic rural and mountainous regions, we believe players will be amazed by the open world of Japan we’ve built. And while we’re not trying to replicate Japan exactly, our goal has always been to capture the country’s unique cultural essence and present it in the most Horizon way possible,” Arceta wrote.

Following its launch in November 2021, Microsoft announced that Forza Horizon 5 became the most successful title in Xbox history, attracting over 10 million players within its first week. It was later released on PlayStation 5 in 2025, where it quickly became a huge success for the company.
