Starfinder: Afterlight Might Be the Sci-Fi RPG Even Baldur’s Gate 3 Fans Can’t Ignore

Few RPGs can claim a connection to both Baldur’s Gate 3 and D&D’s sci-fi rival, but this one does — and soon, you’ll be able to shape its future. Spanish studio Epictellers Entertainment’s Starfinder: Afterlight is launching its Kickstarter campaign next week.

Universes like Dungeons & Dragons and Pathfinder are household names in fantasy, but few fans know that the latter also spawned an ambitious sci-fi counterpart: Starfinder. Now, 16 years after its creation, the D&D 3.5-based universe is getting its first-ever video game: Starfinder: Afterlight. And if any of this sounds interesting, you can actively shape its development by supporting its upcoming Kickstarter campaign.

The Catalan team at Epictellers Entertainment will launch the campaign on October 7, giving fans a chance to back the game ahead of its planned early access release on PC in 2026. Pledge tiers start at €30 with the Akitonian Citizen pack, which guarantees a digital copy. Higher tiers offer premium perks, including naming NPCs, adding backer pets to the game, or designing custom character portraits.

What Exactly Is Starfinder: Afterlight?

For those unfamiliar, Starfinder: Afterlight blends deep storytelling with turn-based combat while positioning itself as an exciting alternative to traditional tabletop-inspired RPGs — and a direct challenger to giants like Dungeons & Dragons. While D&D embraces medieval fantasy, Afterlight ventures into space, merging advanced technology with magical elements.

The story centers on the crew of a spaceship whose captain has mysteriously vanished. The turn-based narrative emphasizes not just combat tactics but also relationships among your crew, each member boasting unique abilities. Confirmed characters include Kole, Tycho, Lu-323, and Sterling — all fully voiced in the style of Baldur’s Gate 3, adding personality and emotional depth to the team.

The studio’s commitment to storytelling authenticity is further highlighted by Neil Newbon — the actor behind Astarion in Baldur’s Gate 3 — who will serve as voice director. Ricard Pillosu, CEO of Epictellers, emphasized that community involvement will be critical to the game’s success and hinted that more cast members will be announced soon.

Starfinder: Afterlight also marks Epictellers Entertainment’s debut project, spearheaded by industry veterans who previously worked on titles such as Crysis and Ryse: Son of Rome. Backed by Paizo, the creators of Pathfinder and Starfinder, Afterlight is shaping up to be one of 2026’s most promising sci-fi RPGs.
