Return to Silent Hill’s Star Says the Filming Was “Hell” — But Worth It

MOVIE NEWS – Jeremy Irvine, who stars as James Sunderland in the upcoming Return to Silent Hill, admits the project pushed him to his limits — both mentally and physically. Directed by Christoph Gans, the movie will hit theaters in the United States and Spain in early 2026, bringing back the haunting world of Silent Hill 2.

Still catching your breath after playing Silent Hill f? Konami’s latest psychological horror was a pleasant surprise for many fans, as our colleague Alejandro Pascual pointed out in his review. Following the strong reception of Silent Hill 2: Remake, expectations are high for the next cinematic return to the fog-filled town. Yet some fans remain skeptical — until Jeremy Irvine decided to speak out and raise excitement for the project.

Portraying the tormented James Sunderland, Irvine told Radio Times that Return to Silent Hill was “chaotic and wild” to film — and by far the toughest shoot of his career. He said he accepted the role instantly, simply because the Silent Hill games were such an important part of his teenage years. In his own words:

“When they offered it to me, I thought, ‘God, my 14-year-old self would think this is so cool.’ That’s basically why I took the job. (…) It’s fun, but acting from fear is exhausting,” admitted the Outlander: Blood of My Blood star. “My character goes through an intense mental breakdown and creates a world full of monsters in his mind. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. When it was over, I treated myself to a spa in Switzerland.”
