Sony Finally Moves Forward: A Stunning New PlayStation Movie Everyone Thought Was Dead!

After the success of The Last of Us and Uncharted, Sony isn’t slowing down. The company’s next major live-action adaptation is already in the works, and reports suggest it’s far closer to production than anyone anticipated.

PlayStation’s recent push to bring its biggest franchises to film and television is paying off handsomely. Uncharted, starring Tom Holland, was successful enough to spark talks of a sequel, while The Last of Us dominated awards season and secured at least one more season on HBO Max. Now, according to insiders, the next major project on Sony’s list will be another post-apocalyptic epic — and it’s moving forward faster than expected.

As reported by The Game Post, legal documents reveal that Asad Qizilbash, head of PlayStation Productions, has outlined plans to begin shooting a large-scale movie set in one of the company’s most ambitious worlds. “We already have a working script and are actively seeking a director, aiming to start filming in 2026 and release in 2027,” the statement reads.

The film will be distributed by Columbia Pictures (Sony), although the lack of a confirmed director leaves some uncertainty. Still, sources say this project is a clear priority for the studio. The challenge, as always in Hollywood, lies in finding a director who aligns with the creative vision without demanding major changes that could delay production.

From a Planned Netflix Series to a Theatrical Blockbuster

Interestingly, the adaptation was initially conceived as a Netflix series, but negotiations reportedly fell through despite the streamer’s growing interest in gaming properties — the recent Splinter Cell: Deathwatch animated series being one example. Given the enormous, machine-like creatures populating this universe, a cinematic approach might actually be the better fit, even if it risks sacrificing some of the storytelling depth along the way.

The original game’s story takes place in a post-apocalyptic world ruled by robotic beasts, where a young hunter named Aloy explores the ruins of humanity and uncovers long-lost secrets. As for God of War, Prime Video is still developing a two-season adaptation, but there’s been little news in recent months. Meanwhile, Peacock’s Twisted Metal series, while far from a phenomenon, remains an enjoyable, over-the-top adaptation of a classic PlayStation franchise.
