iPhone Air 2: Two rear cameras, design unchanged?

TECH NEWS – According to rumors, the Cupertino-based company does not consider the slim iPhone Air to be a one-off.

The iPhone Air is elegant and powerful thanks to its robust internal components. The company significantly reduced the size of the A19 Pro logic circuit so that it covers only a small area at the top of the device; most of the space is taken up by the battery. However, the tech giant’s decision to reduce the iPhone Air’s thickness to just 5.6 mm does not excuse its failure to install a second rear camera, which would have provided versatility and potentially increased sales. Nevertheless, the market reaction has been the opposite, as Apple has reportedly reduced production due to a lack of demand.

One rumor suggests that the iPhone Air 2 will have two high-resolution primary cameras. However, we may have to settle for Apple not introducing any design changes. Digital Chat Station reports that the iPhone Air 2 may have a 48 MP Fusion camera and an additional 48 MP Fusion ultra-wide-angle sensor. The device is reportedly in the evaluation stage. The leaker refers to the device as the iPhone 18 Air but does not confirm whether the number 18 will appear in Apple’s 2026 product lineup.

The current iPhone Air’s horizontal camera bump will remain, suggesting that the rear cameras on the iPhone Air 2 will also be placed horizontally next to each other. As for the absence of a telephoto lens during testing, it’s possible that the prism and lens took up too much space, forcing Apple’s engineers to switch to an ultra-wide-angle camera. Adding a second sensor to the main specifications will require significant internal redesign to accommodate this camera, including reducing the size of the A20 Pro logic circuit.

According to JPMorgan analysts, the iPhone Air 2 is indeed in development, as is a third-generation version. The iPhone Air could have been saved with a silicon-carbon battery, so Apple should consider this change in 2026.
