iPhone: Will the Display-Integrated Camera Arrive Sooner than We Think?

TECH NEWS – Apple is reportedly closer than ever to implementing displays without camera cutouts on its smartphones.

The company may soon eliminate the front cutout on its iPhones. Within a few years, the technology will advance to the point that all components, including the camera, can be embedded behind the display, providing users with a full-screen experience. According to the latest rumors, this change will come with the 20th anniversary iPhone, which may encourage Android phone manufacturers to follow suit. A leaker named Digital Chat Station claims that the iPhone 18 series will have a cutout with holes on the front and a transparent back cover. He claims that the Cupertino-based tech giant will place the front camera behind the display on its 2027 models. This is not the first time he has mentioned this, however.

In May, the same insider said that the TrueDepth camera and all relevant components would receive the same treatment as the front sensor. However, if Apple launches the iPhone 18 series in 2026, the iPhone 19 series, arriving in 2027, will feature a significant design change. Rumor has it that this is Apple’s plan for the next few years. However, the company will not necessarily market it as the iPhone 19. 2027 will mark 20 years since Steve Jobs unveiled the first iPhone. In 2017, the 10-year milestone was reached with the announcement of the iPhone X. Chronologically, ten years later, the official name of the 20th anniversary edition should be iPhone 19. However, according to a leading researcher, the 2027 series will be released as iPhone 20. Six models are expected in two years.

It does not seem appropriate to keep the name iPhone 19 for the 20th anniversary edition, so if Apple goes ahead with the name change, it will be the right decision. However, not everyone agrees with this decision. This includes Ross Young, the founder and CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants, who is a reliable source of Apple rumors. According to Young, Apple’s transition to a notchless iPhone will occur in three stages, with the notchless design appearing in 2030 instead of 2027.
