New Street Fighter Will Easily Beat The 1994 Van Damme Version

MOVIE NEWS – The 1994 Street Fighter was absolutely terrible, says comedian Andrew Schulz, who plays Dan Hibiki in the new Street Fighter.

His main complaint is that in the earlier version Jean-Claude Van Damme was the lead, playing an American war veteran with a strong European accent. It also did the action film based on the video game no favors that the heroine was played by Australian pop star Kylie Minogue, who, it was obvious, had no idea what the generation that grew up with a controller in its hand expected from her.

Schulz thinks there is at least one upside to the 1994 Street Fighter being so bad: “It will not be hard to surpass it, we will easily beat it. It is very difficult to outdo a legendary film, no one has even tried with The Godfather, the pressure would be too great. But if you are dealing with another kind of franchise and the first attempt did not work, fans can say, okay, let’s see what the second try is like. Maybe this time the characters will be presented in an interesting way and we will get the kind of story we want.”

The new Street Fighter takes viewers to an international martial arts tournament where each participant wants to show, in their own style, that they are the best in the world. The actors playing the comic side characters – Schulz among them – trade jokes alongside such heavy hitters as Jason Momoa, Indian superstar Vidyut Jammwal and 50 Cent.
