Assassin’s Creed Shadows: A Windows Update Has Ruined Its Performance! [VIDEO]

In situations like this, we must ask ourselves if it makes sense to switch to Windows 11 when we have to report on issues like this.

The latest Windows update, KB5066835, has caused a significant drop in performance in PC games and ports. Several days ago, Nvidia released a new GeForce hotfix driver (581.94) after receiving reports from gamers that the performance of certain games had deteriorated. Digital Foundry investigated the issue and confirmed that Assassin’s Creed Shadows experienced a substantial decrease in frame rate after installing KB5066835. In Digital Foundry’s tests, the game performed 33-50% worse on a PC with a Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 GPU following the update. The GeForce hotfix resolves the issue, so be sure to install it. Another option would be to uninstall the update, but this is unnecessary because of the hotfix. Windows updates have caused problems in games before, but perhaps never to this extent.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows recently received its 1.1.6 update. It features a collaboration with the Attack on Titan franchise and a new mission available until December 22. Along with the story mission, the Attack on Titan Dual Pack is available for purchase in the in-game store. Inspired by the Attack on Titan universe, the pack includes outfits, weapons, trinkets, and a new mount. A new side mission called “The Puzzlement” is also available. In it, the main characters, Naoe and Yasuke, learn a move from each other. Naoe learns to perform her own spectacular version of Yasuke’s war kick ability, and Yasuke learns to eliminate enemies non-lethally and stealthily.

Ubisoft recently confirmed that Assassin’s Creed Shadows has performed quite well so far. The French publisher will release it next week on Nintendo Switch 2 in an attempt to maintain interest in the latest installment of the franchise.
