CD Projekt Drops a Strange Cyberpunk 2077 Calendar – Fans Are Already Spinning Wild Theories

CD Projekt RED has spent years rebuilding the reputation of Cyberpunk 2077 with painstaking post-launch work: unexpected updates, constant fixes, and a DLC, Phantom Liberty, that climbed to a 94% positive rating on Steam. On the game’s birthday, fans were sure another surprise was coming when the studio shared a December calendar with three marked dates – but as Marcin Momot has now made clear, this time there is no new content hiding between the lines.

Thanks to the studio’s long-term support, the sci-fi RPG has come a long way from its disastrous debut. CD Projekt RED pushed far beyond the usual post-launch window, delivering patches that arrived out of nowhere and a major expansion that won over almost everyone on Steam. With that track record, players did not need much to start dreaming, so when a new calendar graphic appeared on social media, many assumed some kind of fresh content was around the corner.

The image highlighted December 10, 12, and 19, tying those days to characters such as Solomon Reed and Song So Mi. It did not take long for the community to speculate about possible additions to Phantom Liberty or even a surprise tied to the base game. The post also referenced other titles, which only poured more fuel on the fire, especially given CD Projekt’s history of dropping unexpected announcements.

Soon, several media outlets began to speculate that something significant might be forthcoming. At that point, Marcin Momot, the studio’s Global Community Director, stepped in to cool things down and shut the theories down. Responding on X, he clarified that this was not a tease for new content at all. As he explained, “We’re not hinting at anything. This is our monthly post announcing character birthdays, which we publish every 30 days.”

The misunderstanding hit at a particularly sensitive moment. The year 2025 marks the fifth anniversary of the base game’s launch, so many fans simply assumed the studio would mark the occasion with something special. Momot stressed that this calendar is not that: “This time we’ve also included information about the game’s anniversary, but it’s not a teaser. I hope this clears things up!” Even so, nothing he said rules out some kind of celebration further down the line – it just will not be tied to this specific post.

In another comment, Momot half-jokingly acknowledged how hard it has become for CD Projekt to publish anything without sparking speculation, saying they “can’t release anything without conspiracy theories” attached. The fanbase is so tuned in to every hint that even a routine birthday calendar is instantly decoded as a secret message. The entire episode highlights how differently players perceive marketing materials after a game has undergone a lengthy, public redemption arc.

CD Projekt Is Juggling Several Big Projects at Once

Behind the scenes, CD Projekt RED hardly has idle staff sitting around. Pre-production on the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, informally dubbed Cyberpunk 2, is already underway across its studios in Warsaw, Vancouver, and Boston, and by 2027 the team expects more than 300 developers to be working on the project. At the same time, the company is pushing ahead with The Witcher 4, a new project codenamed Hadar, and a full remake of the original The Witcher.

So even if Cyberpunk 2077 itself is not getting any fresh content out of this calendar, CD Projekt RED has more than enough on its plate. The real challenge now may be managing fan expectations in a world where even a simple birthday graphic can ignite a wave of elaborate theories.
