MOVIE NEWS – The Worldbreaker trailer shows its hand: Milla Jovovich is back in an extreme sci-fi nightmare filled with monsters, infection, and survival, proving once more that destroyed worlds are her comfort zone.
Milla Jovovich continues to expand her filmography within dystopian and post-apocalyptic cinema. After leading the Resident Evil saga across six installments over fifteen years, ruined futures have become her natural environment. This trajectory is reflected in projects such as The Fifth Element (1997), Ultraviolet (2006), and the more recent Breathe (2024). That trend will be reinforced in just over a month with the release of Worldbreaker, an extreme survival thriller and visceral horror story set in a world reduced to rubble.
The film also stars Luke Evans, known for Dracula Untold, alongside Billie Boullet. The plot unfolds on an Earth ravaged by the Breakers, monsters that infect and mutate humans, turning them into killers, with men being especially vulnerable. In this setting, Willa (Boullet), one of the few survivors, takes refuge on a remote island under the rigorous training of her father (Evans). While her mother (Jovovich) fights on a front that is close to collapse, the young woman must overcome her fears and prepare for the creatures’ inevitable advance, holding on to the hope that as long as she survives, the world is not entirely lost, according to information published by Collider.
The Reviews Are Not Very Flattering
If the premise sounds appealing, expectations may need to be tempered. Although the film is scheduled for release in the United States on January 30, and still has no confirmed date for Spain, audiences in other international markets have already seen it. So far, the reactions have been harsh. This outcome was not entirely unexpected, though the involvement of Brad Anderson, director of The Machinist and Phone Booth, had sparked some hope for a stronger result.
Ultimately, the best judge is the audience itself, and in a few weeks, or perhaps a few months, it will become clear whether Worldbreaker truly delivers a solid action-driven survival story within a horror setting. In any case, fans of Milla Jovovich will have plenty to look forward to next year, as she recently starred opposite Dave Bautista in The Lost Lands, a science fiction western based on a story by George R.R. Martin and directed by her longtime partner Paul W.S. Anderson.
