MOVIE NEWS – Netflix has unveiled the first official teaser for Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, confirming that Cillian Murphy is stepping back into the role of Tommy Shelby. Fans have been waiting for this continuation ever since the series ended in 2022, and the trailer finally gives a proper glimpse of what’s next. Better yet, the film won’t be streaming-only – it’s headed to theaters first, before landing on Netflix.
Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man has been years in the making, with audiences eager to see Cillian Murphy reprise Tommy Shelby from the moment the show concluded in 2022. Now Netflix has released an official teaser, offering some of our first looks at a mix of returning and brand-new characters. The release plan makes the moment even bigger: rather than debuting exclusively on the platform, The Immortal Man will hit theaters on March 6, 2026, and then arrive on Netflix on March 20, 2026.
Netflix describes the upcoming movie:
“Birmingham, 1940. Amidst the chaos of WWII, Tommy Shelby is driven back from a self-imposed exile to face his most destructive reckoning yet. With the future of the family and the country at stake, Tommy must face his own demons and choose whether to confront his legacy or burn it to the ground. By order of the Peaky Blinders…”
The upcoming movie will also star Stephen Graham, Sophie Rundle, Ned Dennehy, Packy Lee, Ian Peck, Rebecca Ferguson, Tim Roth, Jay Lycurgo, and Barry Keoghan.
The Steven Knight-created series premiered on BBC Two in 2013, and in 2014, rights to the series were secured by Netflix, ensuring that it wasn’t just a UK hit but a worldwide sensation. Over the course of six seasons, the show earned tremendous critical acclaim, along with a string of award wins and nominations, turning Tommy Shelby and the Peaky Blinders into modern pop-culture icons.
Even though Murphy had several beloved roles under his belt when he became Tommy Shelby, many fans would argue that Peaky Blinders is the performance that defined his career. Since the end of the series, Murphy won the Academy Award for Best Actor for Oppenheimer. With the series finale leaving Tommy behind in Birmingham, Murphy recently reflected on what it meant to return to the role, speaking to Empire Magazine:
“I loved that beautiful ambiguity of him riding off on the horse, and he’s gone, and we don’t know where he’s gone to, but he’s back in the Gypsy world … Now here he is existing in whatever way that he can against the backdrop of World War II. That’s very elegant bookmarking of a story.”
With the backdrop of World War II, Knight teased that the conflict in The Immortal Man could be more intense than warfare, explaining to Netflix’s Tudum: “The country is at war, and so, of course, are our Peaky Blinders … It will be an explosive chapter in the Peaky Blinders story. No holds barred. Full-on Peaky Blinders at war.”
Following The Immortal Man, an all-new Peaky Blinders sequel series is on the way that will jump forward in time.
