Hundreds of Hours Wiped Out: Escape from Tarkov Streamers Lose Everything After Security Breach

A major security flaw allowed attackers to reset prominent streamers’ accounts, erasing months of progress and sparking widespread concern. Even the most-followed Spanish-speaking Tarkov streamer was hit.

Can you imagine pouring nearly 500 hours into a game only to see it all vanish because of a developer-side security failure? That is exactly what has happened to several Escape from Tarkov content creators. Reports indicate that a vulnerability in Battlestate Games’ systems enabled one or more malicious users to access streamers’ accounts via the game’s official website. Once inside, they allegedly pressed the “reset game profile” button, which completely wipes all progress tied to the current prestige level.

The safety of Escape from Tarkov is called into question

The attack affected streamers across different regions of the world, many of whom had two-step verification enabled. According to Baxbeast, a Spanish-speaking creator who appears to have been the first victim, the breach came without warning. “Somehow, someone accessed my account and reset my profile to zero, and even changed my profile picture. My accounts have two-step verification and everything. I’ve never had anything like this happen before. I was level 53, ready to reach Prestige 5, with all quests completed and the ‘For Humanity’ ending finished”, he explained on social media.

Another confirmed victim was DrLupo. The American streamer, who has more than 1.5 million YouTube subscribers, was attacked while live on stream. A notification prompted him to log in again, and upon doing so, he was taken straight to the character creation screen. Insanesqt and Logical Solutions have also confirmed being affected, though they may not be the only ones. Given how recent the incident is, it is likely that additional creators have yet to realize their profiles were reset.

An account reset causes you to lose all non-persistent progress

Despite the uproar on social media, Battlestate Games has so far only stated that it has “already taken measures” and is “investigating” the situation. It remains unclear whether the security breach extends beyond these targeted accounts. At present, it appears to be a focused attack aimed at sabotaging specific content creators rather than a mass hack impacting the wider community. Still, the platform’s security has been seriously questioned, and players are advised to remain vigilant with any accounts linked to Escape from Tarkov, particularly those tied to email or banking information.

There is also uncertainty surrounding the future of the affected creators’ accounts. Many were in the middle of pushing toward new prestige levels or completing every ending, making a forced restart a devastating setback that could heavily impact their content. The timing is especially unfortunate, as a Twitch drops campaign is currently driving renewed interest in the game, boosting viewership and revenue—benefits these creators are now unable to fully capitalize on.
