Multiple reports circulating today suggest that another installment in the Wolfenstein franchise could be on the horizon. More specifically, the rumors point toward a fully fledged Wolfenstein 3.
The possibility was first raised by Windows Central as part of its predictions surrounding Xbox in 2026, and the information was later backed up by Kotaku. No concrete details have been shared so far, beyond the claim that the project is in development at MachineGames and that, according to Windows Central, it could be scheduled to align with Amazon’s already-announced Wolfenstein television series.
If true, this would mark MachineGames’ first proper return to the Wolfenstein universe since 2019’s Wolfenstein: Youngblood, a spin-off centered on B.J. Blazkowicz’s twin daughters as they searched for their father in France while continuing the fight against the Nazis. The last mainline entry, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, launched back in 2017, making a third numbered title a long-awaited comeback. In the meantime, the studio has kept itself busy, contributing to Doom: Legacy of Rust and developing Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. Windows Central also notes that MachineGames could simultaneously be working on a multiplayer project described as being in the vein of Rainbow Six Siege.
The Wolfenstein rumors are not especially surprising, given that MachineGames studio head Jerk Gustafsson stated as recently as last September that the franchise was always envisioned as a trilogy, adding that “we’re not done with Wolfenstein yet.” A third game would likely aim to bring B.J. Blazkowicz’s arc to a conclusion, while also resolving the long-running conflict with the Nazi regime. What remains unclear is whether such a story would take place before or after the events of Youngblood.
