Amazon Finally Confirms Kratos: Ryan Hurst Will Lead the God of War Series on Prime Video

At last: Amazon has officially confirmed who will play Kratos in the God of War series, and fans have every reason to be excited. Amazon MGM Studios has revealed that Ryan Hurst will star as Kratos in the live-action adaptation coming to Prime Video, and he is already tied to the franchise thanks to his previous role in GoW: Ragnarok.

It has been several years since a God of War series was first announced for Prime Video. Since then, information has arrived in small doses, but it was clear the project was gradually moving forward. One major question remained unanswered for a long time, though: who would play Kratos, and now we finally have that answer. After TC Carson and Christopher Judge, it is now time to welcome Ryan Hurst.

Ryan Hurst Played Thor in God of War Ragnarök

After months of speculation and fan casting, Amazon MGM Studios made the announcement directly on its website: Ryan Hurst will play Kratos in the live-action God of War series. The actor is widely known for portraying Opie in Sons of Anarchy, but he is now set to take on one of PlayStation‘s most iconic characters, and many fans believe he is more than worthy of wielding the Leviathan Axe and the Blades of Chaos across the Norse realms.

What has players most excited is that Hurst is not new to the God of War universe. Many will remember that he provided both the voice and performance capture for Thor in God of War: Ragnarök. In other words, Ryan Hurst is going from portraying one of Kratos’ major enemies in Ragnarök to fully embodying the Ghost of Sparta as the lead of a live-action series.

More Details About the God of War Series

It is worth noting that the series will premiere exclusively on Prime Video, with Ronald D. Moore (Battlestar Galactica) serving as showrunner. Amazon MGM Studios reportedly intends to stay faithful to the story of God of War (2018), following Kratos and Atreus on their journey through the Norse realms, while giving the episodic format enough room to explore deeper lore. Unfortunately, there is still no confirmed release date, but we do know the God of War series has already been renewed for a second season, and Season 1 is currently in pre-production, meaning more casting news should arrive soon.

The synopsis is as follows: “God of War follows father and son Kratos and Atreus as they embark on a journey to scatter the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye. Through their adventures, Kratos tries to teach his son how to be a better god, while Atreus tries to teach his father how to be a better human.”
