Rockstar Games is reportedly still planning a version of Red Dead Redemption 2, released more than seven years ago, for the 2020 consoles.
An insider at Rockstar Games shared new information about the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series versions of Red Dead Redemption 2. These versions have been surrounded by rumors for years, but unfortunately those rumors have not yet been confirmed. As a result, some Red Dead Redemption 2 fans have already given up hope that the 2018 open-world Western will make the jump to the most modern hardware. And considering Rockstar Games is working full steam on Grand Theft Auto VI, likely to avoid another delay, it is understandable to feel that way. Reece Reilly, who occasionally shares exclusive news, usually related to Nintendo, claims to know eight different developers at Rockstar Games who worked on the current-gen version of Red Dead Redemption 2. “I can say with 100% certainty that I know eight developers who worked on the next-gen version of Red Dead Redemption 2. That is a fact, but Rockstar does whatever it wants regarding release dates. Maybe the development schedule of Grand Theft Auto VI changed the release timeline for every game. Who knows, all I know is that developers have worked on it, and it will come out eventually,” Reilly wrote on Twitter.

Unfortunately, we did not learn many key details, but this may ease the worries of those who feared this long-awaited re-release had either been canceled or never existed. It may have only been temporarily delayed, which seems very plausible. Of course, this information should be treated with caution. Nothing is official yet. A current-gen version of Red Dead Redemption 2 may be real, but that does not mean we will ever see it, let alone soon. There are no guarantees in game development, especially with projects that have not even been announced.
Rockstar Games has not commented on this, nor on earlier rumors regarding a Red Dead Redemption 2 re-release.
