A new leader will take the helm at the Finnish studio on March 1, which is a relief considering that FBC: Firebreak was a flop, leaving Remedy Entertainment in a less-than-perfect financial situation.
Starting March 1, Remedy Entertainment will have a new CEO, Jean-Charles Gaudechon. He has over 20 years of management experience in gaming and digital entertainment. He previously held senior management positions at Electronic Arts and CCP Games. However, mainly because of his time at EA, we are concerned that he may not be able to steer the ship in the right direction in the future.
“I am delighted to announce the appointment of Jean-Charles (JC) Gaudechon to lead Remedy into a phase of profitable growth. His proven history of growing gaming franchises and successfully leading international studios makes him a great fit for the current stage of Remedy‘s business. Under JC’s leadership, we are well-positioned to accelerate growth significantly, guide Remedy towards greater independence through self-publishing, and deliver sustained value to our players, partners, and shareholders,” wrote Henri Osterlund, Remedy Entertainment‘s chairman of the board, in the press release.
“I’m excited and honored to join Remedy at a pivotal time. The studio has a unique creative identity and a strong pipeline. I am committed to protecting what makes it special, delivering exceptional games, and scaling Remedy in a way that builds lasting value. Remedy has the voice and ambition to be a pillar of the industry’s future. We will stay close to our players, earn their time and trust, strengthen our independence in how we build and publish our games, and continue to work closely with the partners who have supported us along the way. I will be moving to Finland with my family, and I’m excited to start working directly with the studio team,” Gaudechon added.
Markus Maki, the current interim CEO and co-founder of the studio, will remain in his position until March 1. However, it remains to be seen whether Remedy Entertainment will find a strong leader. It’s worth noting that Gaudechon was most recently senior vice president and general/group manager of OneFootball, a sports app, and Sleeper, a fantasy sports platform.
