Could One of the Call of Duty Studios Be Working on a Multiplayer Halo Project? [VIDEO]

Microsoft may be trying to revive the Master Chief franchise, which has not been particularly successful lately, by bringing in developers from another franchise.

It’s fair to say that Halo: Combat Evolved wasn’t the huge success Microsoft had hoped for. So far, the game has sold 1.2 million copies, and following the controversial move to a rival platform, it has only managed to attract 1% of PlayStation 5 players. The remake also received terrible reviews: it became the worst-rated mainline entry in the series, with its user score on Metacritic plummeting to just 5.2. It seems that Microsoft is now seeking outside help from a Call of Duty developer to resolve the issues surrounding Halo.

According to Rebs Gaming, Microsoft is exploring the possibility of collaboration between Activision and Halo Studios, with Call of Duty developer Sledgehammer Games developing a new multiplayer title for the series. The insider claims to have learned from a reliable source that Activision is now assisting with Halo development and that a prototype has already been completed. Microsoft is considering a proposal for Activision to assist with the development of Halo games, which would also involve Sledgehammer Games developing a multiplayer Halo project.

This past June, the Call of Duty developer tested a prototype based on a new Halo concept. According to Rebs, this prototype included only basic game mechanics, such as movement, and the project was canceled in July. However, this does not mean that Activision will not develop new Halo games, as Microsoft is still considering this collaboration. Although nothing has been approved yet, the insider believes that Activision and Sledgehammer could work very well on the multiplayer project, as outsourcing is increasingly becoming the norm for Halo.

With the current-gen re-releases of the first two Call of Duty: Black Ops games selling 32 times more copies than Campaign Evolved, support from the world’s biggest shooter franchise could be just what Halo needs to survive.
