Blizzard‘s new expansion for its MMORPG is perhaps way too loud, and players have noticed.
World of Warcraft: Midnight is the first expansion that has given players a real reason to return to the elven city of Silvermoon since its release in 2007. Many players believe the expansion is a beautiful update to the iconic location in Azeroth. However, we can all agree that Blizzard should provide players with earplugs or a mute button to drown out the events unfolding in the northern part of the city. The expansion centers on the conflict between darkness and light, or the Void and the Light, and Blizzard isn’t letting us forget it. A beam of golden light spans the dark sky, visible across the entire eastern continent and audible in the surrounding areas.
Thematically, this makes sense: The magical Sunwell naturally opposes the Void, using all its power to hold it back. This clash lies at the heart of the main conflict. However, the Sunwell does so in the loudest way possible. The rumbling and crackling can be heard throughout Silvermoon, and it only gets worse as we cross the bridge. NPCs no longer remind us about the Sunwell because no one will forget that jet-powered well anytime soon. On Reddit, a user recounted being on Discord with guildmates on launch night. Whenever someone had to return, they said they couldn’t hear anything over the noise and asked why it was so loud.
spare your ears until they lower the distance at which you hear the sunwell. it’s on the ambient sound channel 💛💜 pic.twitter.com/QYggUkCmXV

Some players have figured out that the Sunwell’s crackling energy appears as an environmental sound, which can be turned off in the sound settings. We want to hear NPCs walking around and players laughing and cheering in the distance; otherwise, everything seems lifeless. All Blizzard needs to do is reduce the sound’s range so that we only hear it when we’re close to the Sunwell.
Let us enjoy the city and speak with the NPCs we want. It’s painful enough that every guard yells at us for not being paladins dedicated to the Light. At least spare us the Sunwell’s loud wrath.
