Samsung and Vienna’s Kunsthistorisches Museum Bring 43 Masterpieces to the Art Store

TECH NEWS – Samsung Electronics and Vienna’s Kunsthistorisches Museum have announced a partnership that will bring 43 works from the museum’s collection to the Samsung Art Store. Paintings by Bruegel, Vermeer, Klimt, Caravaggio, Rembrandt, and other major artists will be available in 4K resolution on compatible Samsung TVs.

The partnership adds a selection of some of the Vienna museum’s best-known paintings to Samsung’s digital art platform. The collection includes several works by Pieter Bruegel the Elder, including The Tower of Babel, Johannes Vermeer’s The Art of Painting, Gustav Klimt’s Nuda Veritas, Giuseppe Arcimboldo’s Summer, and cityscapes of Vienna and Venice by Canaletto and Bellotto. Works by Rubens, Velázquez, Caravaggio, Titian, Rembrandt, and Raphael are also included.

According to Samsung, the high-resolution digital reproductions are intended to preserve enough detail for viewers to examine smaller elements of the paintings on compatible displays. That is particularly relevant to works such as Bruegel’s densely composed The Tower of Babel or Vermeer’s The Art of Painting, where lighting, textures, and fine visual details are central to the original works.

The Kunsthistorisches Museum Joins the Louvre, Prado, and Other Art Store Partners

The addition of the Kunsthistorisches Museum expands an Art Store catalog that already includes works connected with institutions such as the Louvre in Paris, the Prado Museum in Madrid, and the MUNCH Museum in Oslo. Samsung’s service offers several thousand digitized artworks that can be browsed according to style, period, or mood, allowing compatible TVs to function as digital displays when they are not being used for conventional viewing.

“We are delighted to join the Samsung Art Store and share our unparalleled collection with an international audience. By making these masterpieces accessible to everyone, regardless of location, we can reach a broader audience,” said Dr. Jonathan Fine, General Director of the KHM Museum Association. Fine added that the digital presentation could also encourage viewers to eventually visit Vienna and experience the original artworks in person.

The Kunsthistorisches Museum opened in 1891 and houses the historic Habsburg collections alongside Egyptian, classical antiquity, and European art. It is also home to the world’s largest collection of paintings by Pieter Bruegel the Elder. Access to Samsung Art Store requires a separate paid subscription, and the available collection may change over time. According to Samsung, the service is supported on a range of its 2025 and 2026 televisions, including The Frame and The Frame Pro as well as selected Neo QLED, QLED, and other premium models.
