Call of Duty: Warzone: Blackout-Inspired Mode Coming to the Game [VIDEO]

The new mode, Black Ops Royale, will arrive in a few days, so you won’t have to wait long.

Before Call of Duty: Warzone became one of the most popular battle royale games after its release in 2020, Call of Duty first encountered the battle royale genre in 2018 with Blackout mode in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. Now, Microsoft-owned Activision has announced that it is bringing back Blackout – or something similar. Black Ops Royale is a Blackout-inspired battle royale mode coming to Call of Duty: Warzone. Like Warzone, it will be free to play.

The new mode arrives on March 13 and brings back elements of Blackout with the polish of modern Call of Duty. According to the official Call of Duty website, Black Ops Royale is an original, Blackout-inspired battle royale mode with no loadouts, Gulag, or Buy Station. Players jump in wearing a wingsuit, fight for survival, upgrade weapons based on their rarity, master the Cradle Breaches technique, and survive against 24 rival teams on Avalon’s huge map.

Once you land, you’ll collect pre-made archetypes of weapons from the Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 arsenal. Each weapon has an upgrade path based on its rarity-categorized accessory kits. As in Blackout, you can carry two pieces of equipment, so you can combine the Grapple Hook, Sensor Dart, and Trauma Kit as you see fit. Blackout‘s original perk system returns with a twist: there are no fixed slots, only five interchangeable, consumable ones.

It’s strange that the new mode was inspired by a game that doesn’t reflect one of the series’ strongest points. However, perhaps that’s exactly what the franchise needs, with Activision and its developers doing everything they can to bring about change. This is understandable because the annual releases are exhausting.
