PlayStation’s problems continue to mount as the planned end of physical game production in 2028 draws fierce opposition from the community. Sony is nevertheless moving ahead with the expansion of its digital service and has now revealed the July lineup for PS Plus Extra and Premium subscribers.

PlayStation is facing an increasingly difficult situation. The decision to stop producing physical games in 2028 has triggered widespread criticism from players, outright rejection from industry organizations, and even legal action in the Netherlands and Mexico. Despite the backlash, Sony is maintaining its usual release schedule and has now announced the nine games joining the PS Plus Extra and Premium catalogs as part of the July 2026 selection. Unsurprisingly, the reveal was once again met with hundreds of complaints across social media.

According to the official PlayStation Blog, the nine additions are divided into two groups: seven games will join the Extra catalog, while Premium subscribers will receive two classic titles. Every game listed below will become available to subscribers on July 21.

Players Have Made Their Position Clear: No Disc, No Purchase

Although PlayStation expands the PS Plus catalog every month, this latest announcement has generated another wave of criticism. That reaction is no longer unusual, as the community has been condemning Sony beneath nearly every new social media post since the company revealed its plan to discontinue physical media. The X post announcing July’s subscription titles received more than 700 negative replies in only ten minutes.

The message from players is clear: no disc, no purchase. Many see PlayStation’s continued investment in digital services, while preparing to end physical production, as another direct blow against the format. The campaign is expected to continue over the coming days, with players angry about Sony’s direction and determined to amplify their opposition across social media. The Japanese company will eventually have to decide whether to proceed with its current plan or reconsider its strategy if the movement begins to affect sales.
