A poll of over 14,000 respondents found that nearly 70% of Xbox fans want the platform to return to exclusive titles in some form.
Microsoft abandoned its exclusivity model in 2024, releasing its first-party titles across multiple platforms — but the fanbase has not moved on. A poll conducted by industry journalist Jez Corden on Twitter drew more than 14,000 responses and asked whether Xbox fans wanted a return to platform exclusives. Over 42% voted in favor of releasing most first-party titles exclusively on Xbox, while a further 27% supported a more limited form of exclusivity. In total, nearly 70% of respondents expressed a preference for some degree of return to platform-bound releases.
The timing of the discussion is notable. Xbox recently appointed Asha Sharma as its new CEO, and she has stated that nothing — including a return to exclusivity — is off the table. The company has also announced its next-generation console under the Project Helix codename, and new entries in the Halo, Forza, and Gears franchises are all expected this year, which could in theory give Microsoft a strong exclusive lineup if it chose to reverse course.
For now, however, the multiplatform strategy remains in place. Sharma has confirmed that the current direction is not changing in the immediate term. The fan demand is clearly there — whether Microsoft acts on it remains to be seen.
