Nearly two decades have passed since the release of Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, the first installment in Naughty Dog‘s iconic series. Now it has made the news again, but not because of the announcement of an Uncharted remake or a developer celebration, but because of the confirmation of an easter egg that nobody knew about until now.
The discovery belongs to speedrunner Panzerdeer, who found it while tinkering with the debug menu and managed to exit the map in chapter 19. In doing so, he found something very different from the game’s treasure when he came across a hidden image with 16 police file-style photos of what appear to be developers from Naughty Dog itself.
The curious thing is that we are not talking about a nod accessible through normal play, but rather a secret buried in an out-of-bounds area and therefore only visible through debug. Across spaces like Reddit and social media, many have pointed out that the images include nicknames and internal jokes, something very characteristic of the studio at that time.
Among the names that have attracted the most attention appear tags like Ask?Latr, Cor-Upted, or BigDaddy, small jokes that reinforce the idea of an internal prank. Additionally, another striking detail is that the easter egg did not die with the original version, as it is also present in the PlayStation 4 remaster.
Uncharted Still Has Secrets
In this way, the discovery becomes something even more charming, as Naughty Dog decided to preserve the nod when the game returned years later. It also very accurately portrays why speedrunners and the curious feed the sector’s secrets through their curiosity and discoveries. It is not a great gameplay find, but it does prove that even a classic as thoroughly revisited as Uncharted continues to hide surprises.
