He personally prefers the 2007 movie tie-in, but he knows this is the one fans keep demanding back.
The Simpsons sits in a rare category of TV series – and not just because it has already reached season 37. It’s also one of the few long-running shows that managed to produce at least one genuinely beloved game adaptation. While games turning into great TV is common enough these days, the reverse is far less typical. That’s where The Simpsons: Hit & Run comes in: a laugh-out-loud, surprisingly demanding action-adventure where you can roam Springfield and race as various Simpsons characters.
The game has built a cult following over the years, and executive producer Matt Selman says he never saw that coming. In an interview with People, Selman recalled helping write the game when he was in his mid-to-late 20s, but he had no idea it would end up becoming the Simpsons title fans keep circling back to. Out of the many Simpsons games released over the decades, this is the one that turned into a lasting obsession – and even Selman finds that a little surreal.
Selman also offered a short message to fans hoping for a remaster, a revival, or even just a return to digital storefronts: “never say never.” It’s not an announcement and nothing is locked in, but he acknowledged that the people behind the scenes understand what the audience wants. That’s still vague, but it’s more than many expected to hear in 2026.
There’s another twist, too: Selman said he has always preferred the 2007 game released a few months after the movie, The Simpsons Game, praising how close its storytelling came to the film’s own level. Even so, if there’s one Simpsons game fans want to access easily again, it’s clearly The Simpsons: Hit & Run.
