According to a leak, the first game is set to be released on modern platforms while the sequel is in development. MP1st recently received promising news about the highly anticipated sequel to The Wolf Among Us. Although the project has been in development for years, has faced cancellation, and has been rebooted, it suddenly seems we’re closer to the game than ever.
Current rumors suggest that a major announcement is expected later this year, with a possible release date set for 2027. Since last year, an Argentine studio has been co-developing the sequel, and it’s possible that the original The Wolf Among Us will also be updated. The partner studio, Trick Studio, primarily known for supporting other projects, appears to be working on a current-gen port or remaster. Trick Studio has previously collaborated with Telltale on The Expanse: A Telltale Series.
The first game, released in 2013, is undergoing a technical overhaul. This is evident in the two screenshots below, which depict familiar locations, as well as in the third image, which shows the game’s menu. The site used official screenshots from the original The Wolf Among Us, while the new ones are blurry but clearly depict the same scenes. The first image shows the developer version of the first game featuring Ichabod Crane‘s office. Yellow squares surrounding much of the set are also visible, and they appear to be developer tools used to mark interactive objects in the environment. The second image belongs to the same environment; a close-up of Crane’s desk appears in a small window surrounded by technical debugging layers and engine data. The third image shows the menu used in the original game. While this image doesn’t reveal much, it’s further evidence that this project is related to the first game, not an early prototype of a sequel.
Telltale switched engines for the sequel, moving from the in-house engine used in the first game to Unreal Engine 5. This makes it even less likely that the developers would rely on their previous work to create the new game. Job postings on the studio’s website (which have since been removed but are still available on Archive.org) indicated two separate projects dating back to last March. One used a placeholder image for The Wolf Among Us 2, and the other was labeled in its file name as a port of the first game. While we cannot rule out the possibility that this development is intended as a Nintendo Switch port — which is currently the only major platform where the original title is unavailable — we shouldn’t overlook the possibility of a broader update covering modern consoles as a whole.
Of course, we’ll have to wait for official confirmation from Telltale Games to know whether this port/remaster will actually happen.
