Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2: The Criticized DLC Is Now Free!

There was a DLC that didn’t offer much for the price and upset players. Well, there’s been a sudden turnaround regarding that.

Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 has had a surprisingly long lifespan, especially since it was originally intended to be a one-off campaign. Multiplayer and co-op modes were added later. We really enjoyed the co-op mode, so we were happy to see that Saber Interactive stuck with it while working on the sequel, adding more missions, weapons, and classes. Less than a month has passed since the free Techmarine class was added.

Everything was going great until Chapter Voice Pack 1 was released – which, judging by its name, is the first of many. As the name suggests, this pack added new voices, battle cries, grunts, and a few new face options for $5. It was difficult to justify the cost of this pack alone, and there were also a few other issues, such as the default voice returning during mission-critical conversations. Unsurprisingly, it received overwhelmingly negative reviews on Steam. In response to the feedback, the developers took the necessary steps and issued this statement:

“We heard your feedback regarding the Chapter Voice Pack 1 DLC and wanted to address it. It’s clear that this DLC failed to meet your expectations, and we apologize for that. Delivering quality content – free or not – is a priority for us. We are currently setting up refunds with the platform owners and will provide more information soon,” wrote Saber Interactive.

So, complaining does sometimes pay off since they’ll actually refund your money. However, it’s unclear if Saber will release more packages of this type in the future, whether paid or not. The DLC was assigned a number, but due to the controversies that arose, as well as the fact that they can no longer use it to generate revenue, releasing further packages will probably be difficult.
