Marketing for Sony’s next exclusive title is slowly picking up steam. However, it may not be enough to quell the criticism that gamers have voiced for weeks.
San Diego Comic-Con is currently underway, and Insomniac Games is using the occasion to generate buzz for Marvel’s Wolverine. On Wednesday, the game’s narrative director, Walt Williams, released a prequel comic that may reveal the true villain of the action game. On Thursday, the SDCC panel titled “Deep Cuts: Marvel’s Wolverine” was held, where the studio delved deeper into the game’s story and characters. Despite a stunning new trailer promising to reveal more about the story of Marvel’s Wolverine, few are discussing the game’s narrative.
The footage suggests that there is tension between humans and mutants and that Logan has no memory of his past. While predictable, Marvel’s Wolverine looks like an exciting adventure based on the footage. This fast-paced, action-packed series features the X-Men heroes and villains, including Jean Grey, Leech, Lady Deathstrike, Sabretooth, and Omega Red. At one point, we see all the flesh stripped from Logan’s adamantium-coated skeleton.
Marvel’s Wolverine offers a new perspective on the iconic Marvel Comics character. As he searches for answers about his past, he unleashes brutal claw combat, violent rage, and relentless determination to unravel the mystery of the man he used to be. The game features Insomniac staples, including fast and fluid combat, exhilarating set pieces, robust accessibility features, and a gripping story that taps into the core of one of the most compelling comic book characters of all time. The game explores Logan’s unique interpretation of heroism, which is darker and more brutal than you might expect from Insomniac.
Wolverine often goes it alone, though he encounters familiar faces on his journey, such as the elusive Mystique and the brutish Omega Red. Some will fight alongside Logan against all odds, while others, such as the Reavers, an enemy faction, will attack our hero relentlessly. In this original story, Wolverine hunts for answers about his elusive dark past. His search will send him on perilous excursions to exotic locales, including the island nation of Madripoor, the frozen wilderness of Canada, and the narrow streets of Tokyo—all of which could become battlegrounds for fierce, bloody, and destructive action.
Marvel’s Wolverine is set to be released on September 15 for the PlayStation 5.
