MOVIE NEWS – Netflix is already assembling what could become its next major prestige drama after The Crown, only this time the focus shifts from British royalty to one of the most famous families in American politics. Production on the first season is underway, and the first official image now shows Michael Fassbender as Joe Kennedy Sr.
Netflix has officially unveiled the first look at its upcoming series Kennedy, with Michael Fassbender stepping into the role of Joe Kennedy Sr., the powerful and deeply controversial patriarch of the family. The project is already being framed as a major historical drama for the streamer, one that will trace the rise, internal tensions, and eventual tragedies of one of the most influential political dynasties in the United States.
The first season is currently filming, and the latest details suggest that the story begins in the 1930s, long before John F. Kennedy reached the White House. Fassbender will be joined by Laura Donnelly as Rose Kennedy, Nick Robinson as Joe Kennedy Jr., and Joshuah Melnick as Jack Kennedy. Recurring cast members also include Ben Miles as Eddie Moore and Imogen Poots as Gloria Swanson.
The eight-episode drama comes from creator Sam Shaw, while Thomas Vinterberg is set to direct both the first and final episodes. Kennedy is based on Fredrik Logevall’s book JFK: Coming of Age in the American Century, 1917-1956, which suggests the series will not simply use the family as a political backdrop, but will dig into the personal relationships, rivalries, and ambitions that shaped the dynasty from within.
