Uncharted Revival? A Suspicious Image Has Fans Looking Again

It has been nearly nine years since Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, the last released entry in Naughty Dog’s award-winning action-adventure series. Now, though, the long wait for a new Uncharted reveal may finally be paying off, because one very suspicious image has put the franchise back under the spotlight.

Many people had started to worry that the series had been left behind for good, especially given Naughty Dog’s earlier pattern. The California studio once moved on from both Crash Bandicoot and Jak & Daxter, even if the former later found new life under Activision and then Microsoft. Uncharted, however, has always stood apart in one important way: while those franchises were aimed more squarely at children, this one was built for a more adult audience, and it also offered a sharp tonal contrast to The Last of Us. The 2022 movie adaptation only reinforced the idea that Sony still sees value in keeping the property active.

That is why a comeback would not be especially shocking, and it is exactly what fans are now hoping for after Shaun Escayg, director of Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, shared a “research” photo on Instagram. The image shows a location that looks unmistakably like something out of Uncharted, and it has been identified as Fort George in Trinidad and Tobago. The site is a British fortification built in 1804, located in the hills overlooking Port of Spain, the Caribbean nation’s current capital and main port.

After Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, Escayg left Naughty Dog and joined Crystal Dynamics, where he led development on the ultimately ill-fated Marvel’s Avengers. He returned to Naughty Dog in April 2021, and since then there have been repeated rumors that he has been overseeing a second, still-unannounced project running in parallel with Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. Neil Druckmann, president of Naughty Dog, has also confirmed that the studio is working on another game that he is producing.

If this really is a new Uncharted game, then the next obvious question is who would take the lead role. Nathan Drake’s arc seemed to end perfectly with 2016’s Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, and not every fan would want to reopen that ending. A new installment could instead focus on his daughter Cassie, on the Lost Legacy duo Chloe and Nadine, on Nathan’s brother Sam, or perhaps even on Sully in some kind of prequel story.

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
