007 First Light Has Suffered Another Delay, but It Is Not as Serious as Reported

Rumors claimed that the Nintendo Switch 2 version of 007 First Light had been delayed indefinitely, but IO Interactive says that is simply not true. The new James Bond game is still set for 2026, although not every platform will receive it at the same time.

In the video game industry, delays are about as common as sunrise. Development troubles, builds that fail to satisfy testers, or even a calculated decision to avoid colliding with another major release are all familiar reasons for a game slipping. In the case of 007 First Light, however, that does not seem to be the issue. Instead, this appears to be a matter of platform prioritization, with IO Interactive confirming that the Nintendo Switch 2 version will not launch alongside the PC and other console editions.

The speculation began after several outlets reported that the version planned for Nintendo‘s new hybrid console had been pushed back indefinitely. That immediately fueled the usual wave of assumptions, with some suggesting there were development problems or that adapting the game to a more limited piece of hardware was proving difficult. IO Interactive, the studio behind Hitman and now responsible for this new James Bond title, has since made it clear that those rumors are false.

IO Interactive Says There Is No Indefinite Delay

According to posts shared on social media, the new game starring the world’s most famous secret agent is still scheduled to launch on May 27, 2026, for consoles and PC. The Nintendo Switch 2 version will indeed arrive later, but only in summer, which means the situation is nowhere near as dramatic as some early reports suggested. The Danish developer has not yet provided an exact release date for the Japanese hybrid console, but it has at least moved to calm concerns surrounding the port.

That makes for an interesting contrast, because while some titles – such as Resident Evil Requiem – have managed to launch simultaneously on Switch 2 and other platforms, that has clearly not been possible in every case. Even so, this does not necessarily disrupt Nintendo‘s broader strategy for its new console, especially as the company appears increasingly open to major multiplatform releases. There are even rumors suggesting that a heavyweight such as Crimson Desert could eventually make its way to the hardware as well.

So for now, 007 First Light has at least escaped one recent fear among players, because the specter of an indefinite delay appears to have been exaggerated. Its 2026 launch window remains intact, and attention can return to the more important question: whether this new James Bond adventure can actually live up to expectations and become one of the year’s bigger releases.
