The Studio Behind Lies of P Renamed Itself and Is Already Preparing for the Sequel! [VIDEO]

Round8 Studio is no longer operating under that name, and its goal is to create the world’s best action game.

The developer of Lies of P, Nough Studio, has released a 16-minute mini-documentary about its corporate culture and work on the franchise. The video includes development anecdotes and discussions by the developers about their plans for the upcoming sequel to Lies of P. According to the video’s description, Nough follows Round8 Studio’s development philosophy and operates under the motto “Games by Gamers”. It’s not entirely clear whether Nough is a complete rebranding of Round8 or a spin-off from the original company (which is a subsidiary of publisher Neowiz). Either way, the end result is the same: the team behind Lies of P is now working at Nough, a name derived from the phrase ‘Not Enough’.

The studio remains tight-lipped about the Lies of P sequel, which we know is in full-scale development but has not yet been officially announced or given a public title. However, the developers at Nough have spoken openly about their ambition to create a bigger, better game. “From the very start, my goal has been to create the world’s greatest action game. And we’re getting there, one step at a time,” said combat director Lee Jeonghyeon.

Director Choi Jiwon said that the team wants to recapture the enthusiasm they had when making Lies of P and create a game that they themselves would enjoy playing. “Players can always tell. As a gamer myself, I know they can tell when a game has been made with real dedication. We’re giving it our all to make it the best it can be. So please wait just a little bit longer. We won’t let you down. I promise. When I look at the team now, I see that everyone is thinking about how we can do even better. Our drive to push ourselves further has only grown stronger,” said Choi.

Much of the video was devoted to Nough’s unique testing of Lies of P and Overture, as well as the sequel. At key milestones in development, Choi livestreams the testing of the game to the company, showcasing its progress. More regularly, Nough organises “Game Day”, when the entire studio puts its usual work aside to play the current version as much as possible, after which everyone fills out a questionnaire about their gameplay experience. According to narrative director Kwon Byungsoo, developing the first title was like working on a blank canvas. With the sequel, however, everyone is building upon an existing template. According to art director Cha Byungjun, this means that many within the team feel pressured to deliver, but the studio is trying to return to the mindset that characterised them during the development of Lies of P.

The difficulty levels in Lies of P, as well as the significant cuts to Overture and the shift in the story’s direction, were shaped by this feedback. This approach appears to have paid off.
