The Japanese company is preparing several exclusives for the Nintendo Switch 2, but exactly what players should expect remains unclear.
Nintendo fans and Nintendo Switch 2 owners may have several exciting things to look forward to in 2027-2028, at least if Kiwi Talkz is to be believed. Reece “Kiwi Talkz” Reilly, who regularly interviews game developers and has occasionally leaked accurate information before official announcements, has now speculated that something is coming for the Metroid, Zelda, and Smash Bros. franchises.
What “more” means for these franchises is not entirely clear. There is the upcoming The Legend of Zelda movie, which Reilly mentions, but he also adds that another game will be released next year. That could be the heavily rumored The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake, or it could be something entirely unknown. As for Metroid, Reilly simply states that another Metroid game is on the near horizon. That could be the rumored Super Metroid Remake, or it could be something completely different. The most intriguing part of Reilly’s statement, however, is that it involves the Smash Bros. franchise.
These are my 4 favorite game franchises of all time and it’s great that I know all 4 IP’s have stuff coming either soon or in a year or two.

Reilly wrote on Twitter that The Legend of Zelda, Metroid, Super Smash Bros., and Grand Theft Auto are his four favorite game franchises of all time, and that it is great to know all four IPs have content coming either soon or within the next year or two. Grand Theft Auto VI is coming in November, another Metroid game is on the near horizon, a Super Smash Bros. title may follow within the next year or two, and another The Legend of Zelda game, as well as the movie, is set for 2027. Reilly later clarified that he never claimed in the tweet that these games would be new. They might be, or they might not be, and he kept things vague for good reason: to protect the developers. They could be new games, spin-offs, remasters, or even additions to Nintendo Switch Online, so players should not jump to conclusions too quickly.
That means expectations should be kept under control when it comes to the possibility of a brand-new Smash Bros. game, especially since an official Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Nintendo Switch 2 Edition update is still missing. This could effectively become the first “new” Smash Bros. SKU to reach Nintendo players, but several Switch 2 updates have also arrived with DLC, so perhaps Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC is also possible. The next two years may therefore be interesting for Nintendo fans, but for now, there are still far more questions than confirmed details.
