Copilot: The Artificial Intelligence Waves Goodbye To Consoles And Mobile!

In just two months, new Xbox boss Asha Sharma has turned the division upside down, though we would hardly have expected less from her.

Shortly after Asha Sharma’s new Xbox leadership team was made public, Sharma commented on the appointments on Twitter and also announced another change affecting Xbox’s direction. Microsoft Copilot, the artificial intelligence introduced into the gaming ecosystem as Gaming Copilot through the Xbox mobile app and the Xbox PC app, appears to no longer fit the platform’s direction.

“Xbox needs to move faster, deepen our connection with the community, and address friction for both players and developers. Today, we promoted leaders who helped build Xbox, while also bringing in new voices to help push us forward. This balance is important as we get the business back on track. As part of this shift, you’ll see us begin to retire features that don’t align with our future direction. We will begin winding down Copilot on mobile and stop developing Copilot for consoles”, Sharma wrote.

The reduced presence of generative artificial intelligence, and artificial intelligence in general, on the Xbox platform has so far been met with a very positive reception, unsurprisingly, as Sharma’s tweet received a large amount of favorable feedback. This directly dispelled earlier fears that emerged with the introduction of the new hires, most of whom came from Sharma’s former team at Microsoft’s CoreAI division.

Sharma has not been in the role long enough to have a meaningful impact on Xbox revenue, but she has already left a deep mark on the platform’s image, and so far she has done everything she can to personally lead the renewal of the Xbox brand. She has only been in the position for two months, yet significant changes are already visible at Xbox, and the platform has gained a new kind of momentum as Sharma works to lay the groundwork for a successful tenure. At least she is taking decisive steps.

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
