Although Bethesda Game Studios (BGS) shifted its focus to The Elder Scrolls VI after Starfield, Todd Howard and his team reportedly have another project in the works.
The Elder Scrolls VI was announced eight years ago, and aside from rumors regarding a location called Hammerfell, we’ve heard very little about it since then. Although the game is reportedly playable, Howard has confirmed it’s far from release. He joked that he’s never heard of it, and well-known Xbox insider Jez Corden suggests this is the case. The next installment in the series will likely debut nearly 20 years after its predecessor, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
“I’ve heard that, but I don’t know how true it is. One thing I’ve heard is that the Fallout remasters are probably a little further off than people think, and The Elder Scrolls VI is still quite far away. I suppose getting some of those games out more quickly is probably at the forefront of their minds,” Corden said during the latest episode of the Xbox Two podcast. He was commenting on recent statements from Matthew Ball of Xbox regarding the revival of classic franchises closely associated with the brand.
As for the release of The Elder Scrolls VI and the Fallout remake or remaster, neither will likely be released this year. Considering we learned about the Fallout 3 remaster when we heard about The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, which was released last year, the third installment in the series will likely be the first game to launch on current-gen consoles, ahead of all other games currently in development at BGS.
Regardless of the release date, The Elder Scrolls VI is at a disadvantage, according to Nate Purkeypile, a former lead graphic artist at BGS. He said that Skyrim set the bar too high.
