It would be ironic if Rockstar and Take-Two pushed back the release date for Grand Theft Auto VI.
There have already been rumors about the game from Playground Games, which recently had excellent sales with Forza Horizon 6, and Xbox Game Studios. These rumors suggest that the Fable reboot, announced six years ago, will not meet its previously planned release date. A Microsoft executive revealed that the game has been pushed back to 2027. Since the game was supposed to be released this fall, it’s clear that this decision was made because of Grand Theft Auto VI, which is currently scheduled for November 19.
“We talked about Forza Horizon 6 and how the team at Playground is doing really well. They’re also doing really well on Fable. The game is in great shape. The team feels really good. We’re excited about where the game is. We want to give the game its own spotlight, so we’re moving its release from this fall to February. Again, we just want it to have its own moment to shine. As for Fable, we will see more of it at the 2026 Xbox Games Showcase. We’re going to have plenty for people to see. Everything is really coming together well. It’s exciting stuff. Then, we’re going to move to February,” said Xbox chief content officer and executive vice president Matt Booty on the Official Xbox Podcast.
Booty’s wording is clear. He didn’t name names, but it’s obvious that the release was pushed back by about four months because of Grand Theft Auto VI. In other words: Microsoft was concerned that the reboot would be released too close to Rockstar’s long-awaited title. This will be an interesting challenge for the developers since the studio has only worked on the Forza Horizon series so far. However, they did open a second location specifically to work on Fable.
The Fable reboot will be available on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC and will be included in the Xbox Game Pass lineup.
