Yes, this time it’s not about the game’s publisher immediately throwing a legal tantrum, which sounds refreshing.
Although Electronic Arts gave up on the Medal of Honor series after the unsuccessful VR spin-off by Respawn, the World War II shooter series that paved the way for Call of Duty still has a strong fan base. Last month, developer Elber88 released a remake of the original Medal of Honor, which was first released on the PS1 in 1999. He built it in Unreal Engine 4 using the original gameplay mechanics and elements from Medal of Honor: Allied Assault. This means that we can now play the series’ debut on PC for the first time.
This was very well received by Medal of Honor fans. Elber therefore decided to further develop the remake. Version 1.1 of the Medal of Honor Retro Remake improves upon the original release in several ways and includes an extra level cut from the original game. Elber invites us to play version 1.1 of the updated remake. To his surprise, it has become popular not only among fans of the original Medal of Honor, but also among casual gamers, as he wrote on ModDB. This inspired him to continue working on it in his spare time for the benefit of the community.
Version 1.1 includes numerous bug fixes, as well as most of the players’ requests and development suggestions. However, Elber does not provide details. However, Elber provides some information about the bonus level set at the infamous Colditz Castle. According to the Medal of Honor Wiki, this mission is primarily documented in a few screenshots and information found in the game’s LEVEL.BIN files. These sources suggest that the objective would have involved gathering intelligence and assassinating the castle’s commander. Elber acknowledges that the mission is based on limited information, so he took creative liberties when designing it. The current implementation can be considered his vision.
The updated Medal of Honor: Retro Remake is available for download on ModDB. Surely Electronic Arts won’t have it removed.
