Onimusha: Way of the Sword: Is Capcom’s Game Launching in a Turbulent Period?

Both Pragmata and Resident Evil: Requiem were successful, both financially and critically. However, their third major release of the year might have a tough time competing.

Grand Theft Auto VI is set to release on November 19, and most major publishers are trying to release their games before Rockstar Games’ highly anticipated, record-breaking title. Consequently, September is shaping up to be the most crowded month in recent years. However, some games may still struggle, including Capcom’s Onimusha: Way of the Sword, the first new entry in the series in a long time.

Over the weekend, the Twitter user @intercelluar—who has proven his credibility by leaking footage of Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced and recently revealing the as-yet-unconfirmed but widely reported Rayman Legends Retold—announced that Onimusha: Way of the Sword is expected to be released on September 25. However, this information may already be outdated.

While the game may not be released on September 25, the likelihood of a September release remains high. NateTheHate wrote on the ResetEra forum that he was only given a target release date in September but never a specific date. He has been hearing about a September release for quite some time. He thinks late September seems like a logical release date. He doesn’t know if the exact day is correct, but September aligns with the expected release window.

If Onimusha: Way of the Sword does indeed launch in September, it can expect stiff competition during its release window. The month will be packed with games targeting a similar audience: Phantom Blade Zero is set to release on September 9 and Marvel’s Wolverine on the 15th. Additionally, Gears of War: E-Day is reportedly planning a September release, as previously reported.

The only question remaining is how this old franchise will hold its own in the modern era.
