It would not be surprising if Nintendo joined the big “not-E3” season again this year, and it would make complete sense.
Spanish insider Nash Weedle recently hinted that a Nintendo Direct will take place next week, saying that we can expect it on June 9. Although he did not specify what type of Direct it would be, a major general Direct seems the most likely, since it is the only type we have not seen yet this year. Another reliable insider, Nate the Hate, has added to this, and while he did not mention an exact date, he claims that this will be the first general Direct of 2026. He said this on his latest podcast, where he began the topic by admitting that this was the information everyone was actually watching the video for.
“What’s more pertinent and immediate, and the reason everyone is actually here to listen to this episode, is when the first general Nintendo Direct of 2026 will be. We’re in June, and expectations are that a Direct will happen in the near future. Is there merit to those claims? When will Nintendo begin discussing its 2026 plans with us after Star Fox, Rhythm Heaven, and Splatoon Raiders? What does the rest of 2026 look like for Nintendo? And we’ll get the answer soon, because based on my information, the Nintendo Direct will be next week, during the second week of June” – the leaker said.
His co-host, Modern Vintage Gamer, then clarified that he meant the week of June 8, before both of them dove into the many titles about which we are still waiting for fresh news. This is not only about major first-party titles, such as the reveal of the next mainline 3D Mario game or the rumored The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake, but also about significant third-party games such as The Duskbloods. Both hosts avoided making direct predictions about what will or will not appear at the next Direct. Instead, they shared their expectations for the scale of the show, which apparently remain as moderate as possible.
This time of year is always packed with big announcements, but it is easy to get overly excited about these showcases, because they almost never live up to even our wildest dreams. So let us keep expectations under control. We should expect a Nintendo Direct announcement, not only because several signs point to it, but also because it would clearly follow Nintendo’s usual pattern of holding some kind of event in June.
