Jeffrey Gattis, head of Amazon’s gaming division, has confirmed that Tomb Raider: Catalyst will not be released until 2028. Lara Croft’s next major adventure was originally planned for 2027, meaning fans will have to wait longer than previously expected.
Amazon has announced a delay for one of its most anticipated games, and once again, the decision affects the Tomb Raider franchise. The company had already indicated that fans would have to wait before playing Tomb Raider: Catalyst, as Lara Croft’s next major adventure was originally scheduled for 2027. However, those plans have now changed unexpectedly, and the developers will need more time to finish the project, pushing the game’s expected release into 2028.
Amazon did not announce the delay through a dedicated statement containing an apology and a detailed explanation. Instead, the information was mentioned almost casually during a recent interview with The Game Business. Jeffrey Gattis, head of the company’s gaming division, confirmed the change while discussing the wide variety of projects managed by his teams. “Our offering ranges from what we call ‘Game Night’ games, which are experiences where you use your phone as a controller, to ‘Single-A’ titles that cost a few million dollars to develop, and even AAA titles”, he began.
“We’ve announced the two Tomb Raider titles. Legacy of Atlantis will arrive on February 12 next year, and the next game will be released in 2028. We’re very excited about these projects. There are also other AAA titles currently in various stages of negotiations”, he continued. Although Gattis only briefly mentioned the change, it represents a significant delay, and no explanation has yet been provided for the decision. More information about the reasons behind the postponement will likely come in a future official statement from Crystal Dynamics, the studio developing the game.
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis Was Also Delayed
This is the second confirmed delay affecting a Tomb Raider game in less than two months. In early June, Crystal Dynamics announced that Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, which is being developed as a reimagining of the 1996 video game, had been moved from 2026 to February 12, 2027. Lara Croft’s long-awaited return will therefore arrive later than originally planned in both the reimagined classic and her next major original adventure.
