Square Enix believes that announcing the third installment in the trilogy led to better-than-expected sales of the first two installments.
The trilogy will conclude with the release of Final Fantasy VII: Revelation on all platforms. Expectations for the finale are extremely high, and Square Enix is likely hoping to meet them. According to the series’s director, sales of the games are already exceeding expectations, so the third installment could achieve similar success. Director Naoki Hamaguchi stated that sales of Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth exceeded expectations several times over following the announcement of Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth.
Hamaguchi noted that the announcement of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth had previously led to a similar sales surge for Final Fantasy VII Remake. In his view, future mentions of Final Fantasy VII: Revelation will likely continue this trend. When asked about overall sales figures, Hamaguchi acknowledged fans’ interest in the numbers. Although he did not disclose specific figures, Hamaguchi said that sales are significantly higher than fans expect.
Hamaguchi also identified the PC as a platform with great potential. He emphasized that the growth of PC gaming culture has influenced the sales patterns of both Final Fantasy VII Remake and Rebirth. This trend likely influenced Square Enix’s decision to release the entire trilogy on multiple platforms and support Xbox hardware. Consequently, Final Fantasy VII: Revelation will be multiplatform from the beginning rather than a timed PlayStation exclusive as we’ve seen in the past. Both Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth were initially released on PlayStation and later made their way to PC.
Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth is set to release in spring 2027 for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
