MOVIE NEWS – One of the greatest challenges of acting is often not the filming itself, but the art of letting go. Daisy Edgar-Jones, the star of Normal People and Twisters, faced this problem while playing protagonist Elinor Dashwood in the latest movie adaptation of Jane Austen’s classic Sense and Sensibility.

In an interview with British Vogue, the actress revealed that months after production had ended, she practically drove herself mad by obsessing over one particular scene.

The actress felt that she should have captured the essence of the scene differently, and she dwelled on it so much that she even dreamed about it. Eventually, she called director Georgia Oakley and asked her to reshoot the scene. The director reassured her, however, that everything looked perfect based on what she had seen in the editing room, so no additional filming was necessary. Edgar-Jones later admitted that when she finally watched the completed production, her earlier concerns did not even cross her mind, and she was completely satisfied with the result.

Edgar-Jones later calmly analyzed what might have caused the problem. She realized that much of her uncertainty came from the filming method: the movie was shot on celluloid rather than digitally, meaning they had only two or three takes available for each scene. The intense pace presented a serious challenge for the actress, and because she was accustomed to a digital workflow, she felt that another five or six attempts at the scene would not have hurt.
