Questing Goose Studio and TinyBuild have combined the cyberpunk genre with shop management. While this may sound unusual, the result looks promising!
Probably Stolen is a gritty new cyberpunk shopkeeping simulator where the customers and goods are both shady! Run your shop, choose your inventory, and do your best to survive amidst the crime and corruption of the Lower Levels. How far are you willing to go to make a quick buck in the retail underworld? Find out in Probably Stolen’s debut playtest, available now on Steam! In the Lower Levels, survival isn’t about being good; it’s about being profitable. In a dystopian space station divided by wealth and corruption, your business depends on merchandise of dubious origin. Buy and sell whatever you can to survive. Navigate faction loyalties and use your gun when necessary. Just remember—if the profit margin looks good, it’s Probably Stolen.
Choose to start as a gunsmith, chemist, water merchant, fence, or farmer—or start from pure rock bottom. Every product has its own profit curve and way of ruining you: weapons face inspections and contraband brings raids. Some trades require heavy machinery and permits; others require only a good hiding spot. You’re not just choosing a theme for your shop; you’re also choosing the type of trouble you’re willing to monetize. You never know who’s on the other side of the counter. Today’s shoppers could be security guards looking for evidence, revolutionaries looking for leverage, or shady characters testing your usefulness. Every sale is a gamble. Whether you approve, refuse, report, or look away, someone is always taking notes.
Every item has its own risks and rewards. Your margins depend on your ability to accurately assess each item. If you misjudge the item or the person selling it, you absorb the cost. You can always reduce the quality of the product to earn a little extra money, but be careful not to incur the wrath of security or mob justice. Rent increases over time, regardless of how well you did this week. If you fall behind, your shop will suffer the consequences, forcing you to choose between playing it safe and taking a big risk to turn a profit again. However, one bad purchase or illegal bust could cost you your business forever. Rogue AI-augmented individuals live among us, secretly kidnapping people for nefarious purposes. All factions on the station agree: shoot on sight! Keep an eye out for suspicious shoppers, and shoot when necessary.
Probably Stolen is in development for PC, and its release date is unknown. However, a beta test is currently underway on Steam.
