Rockstar Will Market Grand Theft Auto VI as a Single-Player Experience! [VIDEO]

Take-Two will therefore not force Grand Theft Auto Online and its Shark Cards, also known as microtransactions, down our throats immediately.

As the release of Grand Theft Auto VI draws nearer, many people thought Rockstar Games might soon reveal details about Grand Theft Auto VI‘s online multiplayer mode. We all know that Rockstar Games is currently focused on marketing, developing and releasing the single-player portion of Grand Theft Auto VI, and the first in-depth presentation of the game will debut on Netflix at the end of the month. However, if we were hoping to catch a glimpse of the game’s guaranteed online mode, which we refer to as Grand Theft Auto VI Online, it seems that will not be happening just yet. This new information comes from Jason Schreier.

“Right now, Take-Two is only talking about Grand Theft Auto VI in terms of the single-player portion, which presumably won’t generate recurring revenue. I don’t think they’re putting microtransactions in the single-player game but not in Grand Theft Auto Online. They have not talked about it at all, nor are they planning to anytime soon, regarding what the new Grand Theft Auto Online will look like, or what that recurring spend will entail,” Schreier said.

He also touched on the leaked revenue figures for Grand Theft Auto Online, which neither Rockstar Games nor Take-Two Interactive has confirmed or denied. The multiplayer mode of Grand Theft Auto V generates $500 million for the company annually. Both players and investors want to know more about the successor to Grand Theft Auto Online. In Take-Two’s most recent fiscal year, the company generated $6.7 billion in revenue, $5.2 billion of which came from microtransactions. This means that almost 78% of Take-Two Interactive’s revenue comes from regular player spending in Grand Theft Auto Online, NBA 2K, and other live-service games from Rockstar, 2K, and Zynga.

For those wondering what will happen to the current Grand Theft Auto Online following the release of Grand Theft Auto VI, the game will continue to be supported even after GTA VI launches on November 19. In the same video, Schreier shared new details from his interview with Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick. The CEO revealed that preorders for Grand Theft Auto VI have already far exceeded Take-Two’s internal projections. He added that the detailed presentation of Grand Theft Auto VI, scheduled for August 27, will offer an in-depth look at the game’s actual gameplay. Zelnick told Schreier that once the presentation has been released, people will understand why Take-Two chose Netflix as the venue for the premiere. He also described the event as something that must be seen.

As expected, the game’s marketing strategy aims to reach a much broader audience beyond the gaming community, including people who are aware of Grand Theft Auto VI but may not intend to buy it on launch day. Zelnick also stated that he is not at all concerned about potentially having to sell the game to a smaller audience. The company expects the size of the user base at launch to be roughly the same as it was when Grand Theft Auto V originally launched.
