In his view, the problem with this second remake of the first Halo game is that Halo Studios, formerly known as 343 Industries, is trying too hard to cater to new players.

More than a week after its release, opinions on Halo: Campaign Evolved have solidified, and it turns out the game has divided longtime fans quite considerably. As previously reported in the news, it seems the remake performed particularly poorly on PlayStation 5. Now, one of the series’ original creators has spoken out and said that he really likes what Halo Studios has put together. Marcus Lehto, a co-founder of Halo and former creative director at Bungie, recently played through Halo: Campaign Evolved and praised its overall improvements on Twitter.

Lehto said he liked many of the improvements made in Halo: Campaign Evolved, particularly the graphics. The former Bungie developer also noted that the team had done a fantastic job with the animations and gameplay. However, he also shared some critical observations about the title. In particular, he drew attention to the frequent hints in the game, suggesting that this caters to next-generation players with shorter attention spans.

“I’ve been slowly playing through Halo: Campaign Evolved on Heroic, the difficulty level we designed the game for 25 years ago. Overall, I really love the upgrades, movement, cinematics and visuals, and the lighting is brilliant! Do I have gripes? A few, but they are taking a back seat to the fun. I think the hints are too heavy-handed, pandering to a new era of players with no attention span,” Lehto wrote.

The good news is that the co-writer of Halo actually likes the parts of Campaign Evolved that he has played so far. This is a good sign, especially since Halo Studios’ most recent projects haven’t been well received by the public. The question, of course, is what the future holds for the franchise.
