Modern Warfare 4 has reached the top of Steam’s global sales chart before its official release. Despite criticism surrounding the open beta, rising pre-orders suggest the new Call of Duty could deliver a stronger launch than last year’s Black Ops 7.
Activision and Infinity Ward have a great deal riding on the reception to Modern Warfare 4. Recent entries have divided the audience, and the new game is attempting to reverse that momentum by leaving older consoles behind while also adding Nintendo Switch 2 to its supported platforms.
SteamDB data shows the game climbing to first place on Steam’s global revenue chart after the open beta began. The turnaround is particularly notable because earlier reports suggested Gears of War: E-Day pre-orders were outpacing demand for the next Call of Duty.
Modern Warfare 4 Pre-Orders Stay Strong Despite Beta Complaints
The test has not been free of problems. Players have criticized technical bugs, gameplay decisions, and several long-running Call of Duty issues, but the sales chart indicates that those complaints have not yet broken the broader level of interest. The Modern Warfare name remains a powerful draw.
Infinity Ward will add a campaign mission to the beta in the coming days. That story-focused sample could attract another wave of curious players and drive additional pre-orders during the final stretch before launch.
Modern Warfare 4 releases on October 23. Reaching No. 1 on Steam does not guarantee long-term success, but doing so this early is a clearly positive signal for Activision after the performance of Black Ops 7.
