The currently scheduled Expedition will still be released in the first month of fall. After that, however, the developers will begin overhauling it.
The upcoming fifth Arc Raiders Expedition will be the last one for quite some time. Developer Embark Studios is putting them on hold until early 2027 to revamp the entire system. Arc Raiders’ Expeditions play a very important role. Functionally, they’re similar to Call of Duty’s Prestige system. They offer high-level players the opportunity to reset most of their character’s progression in exchange for unique perks. This is no small undertaking, and the Arc Raiders community hasn’t been entirely satisfied with how the system works, especially regarding grinding. Embark has been tweaking the system practically from the beginning and has really ramped up its efforts following the changes announced in June regarding the fourth Expedition.
“We have been carefully reviewing your feedback on Expeditions. While we’ve made ongoing improvements, we’ve realized that some issues, such as tight departure windows, reward structure, and accessibility for new players, require more than incremental fixes. They call for bigger changes. To address these concerns, we must pause Expeditions for a while. The fifth Expedition will be the last until early 2027, when Expeditions will return with major improvements that tackle some of the biggest player pain points. So, if you’ve been on the fence about departing, now is the time! We will share more details on what those changes will look like in September,” Embark wrote in the new update.
Progress won’t be lost during the hiatus because consecutive boosts that have already been earned will remain in effect, and partially completed caravans will be compensated with Ermal vouchers of equal value. Reactions to the hiatus have been mixed. The mood on Twitter is slightly more hostile than on the game’s subreddit. However, there is no widespread relief regarding the upcoming major changes.
Many players are taking a wait-and-see approach. They acknowledge that the Expeditions system needs improvement but still have reservations about Embark’s ability to fix things. This challenge is compounded by the fact that some players are satisfied with the system and don’t want it to change.
