MOVIE NEWS – Alan Ritchson has spoken candidly about how fame affects his family, but Arnold Schwarzenegger’s attitude gave him a new perspective. While working together, the Reacher star watched the action legend continue to make time for fans after more than five decades in the spotlight.
Alan Ritchson’s career reached another level with the success of Reacher, but he also discovered the side of popularity that never appears on screen. The actor has bluntly said that he hates fame, largely because constant attention and the loss of privacy place a burden on his wife and children as well.
Ritchson recently worked with Arnold Schwarzenegger on the Christmas action comedy The Man with the Bag. During production, he saw up close how a man who has been a global celebrity for more than half a century responds to people who want to meet him or take a photograph.
While a scene was being filmed inside a coffee shop, fans began banging on the window and asking Schwarzenegger to come outside. Instead of becoming irritated or dismissing them, the star promised that he would join them after the scene and pose for pictures.
“If that is his attitude, I have no excuse.”
Fame is not only a burden, but a responsibility
Ritchson said Schwarzenegger’s example was especially powerful because the veteran action star lives with attention on a scale he can barely imagine, yet never forgets that audiences made his career possible. The Reacher lead weighed that approach against the pressure on his own family and concluded that he must make a more conscious effort to give people his time.
The lesson did not instantly erase Ritchson’s discomfort with celebrity, but it complicated his view of it. Public exposure remains a serious cost of his work, yet Schwarzenegger demonstrated that popularity can also create a responsibility—and a reason for gratitude—alongside its intrusions.
The pair’s movie The Man with the Bag is set to arrive on Prime Video in December. Schwarzenegger plays a Santa whose gift bag is stolen, forcing him to recruit a former thief played by Ritchson. Meanwhile, the fourth season of Reacher continues to cement Ritchson’s place among today’s leading action stars.
