Polyphony Digital will release the major free update in two parts, which is unusual.
The Spec IV update will be released in October, followed by the second part in December. This also renders the disc version of Gran Turismo 7 irrelevant. If you buy the game from a studio that develops almost exclusively car games, you can expect a whole slew of updates. Hopefully, the Japanese developers won’t fall behind on the updates. However, considering how long Gran Turismo 5 was delayed before its release in late 2010, anything could happen.
In October, we’ll get a new track (Sportsland Sugo), six new cars, and a new Spec IV intro movie. In Vintage mode, we’ll be able to purchase cars that are no longer available new. With the Car Concierge, we can order used and Legend cars. In Experience mode, you’ll receive brand-specific challenges. Thanks to the Car Viewer, you can admire your cars in the garage. Finally, Polyphony Digital is raising the Collector Level cap.
In December, a new track will be added: Autumn Ring. It was already in the first game, but the Japanese studio hadn’t included it until now. Six new cars will be added, as well as Family Mode, which is racing for all ages, and Shuffle Race Mode, where you race in a randomly selected car. It’s up to luck what you get to drive. A new mode, Online Drift Trial, will allow you to compete against drifters from around the world. Gran Turismo Sophy’s artificial intelligence will reach a new level. A new Power Pack difficulty level will be available for more advanced players.
Clearly, the two-part update was named Gran Turismo 7 Spec IV because of these new game modes, marking a significant leap in content for the Polyphony Digital game, which is available on both the PlayStation 5 and the PlayStation 4. But when will Spec V arrive?
