Housemarque and its owner, Sony Interactive Entertainment, are preparing a major content update for the PlayStation 5 exclusive game.

The Zenith update introduces Overlord Rush, a new mode in which players can face off against powerful Overlord enemies from the main game, compete for a high score, and use integrated leaderboards to compete with players worldwide. This mode is reminiscent of the classic arcade-style games that Housemarque is known for.

The update also introduces Eclipse Layers, a new game+ mode that allows seasoned Enforcers to test their skills to the limit. After completing Saros, players can return to the beginning and face a more challenging version of the game. You can rise to meet these trials with new progression options and Carcosan modifiers that allow you to customize your experience. There are also new secrets and trophies to discover as you delve deeper into Eclipse Layers.

In July, Alinea Analytics reported that approximately 415,000 copies of Saros had been sold by that point. We still haven’t seen any official sales figures, so it’s possible that Housemarque’s game hasn’t reached one million sales since then, which is disappointing, especially considering that the annual multiplatform baseball game MLB The Show 26 had already sold more than 756,000 copies by that point. At that time, there was no word on the performance of Marathon and God of War: Sons of Sparta on the PlayStation 5. This is precisely why attempting such a major update for Saros is a bold move—but perhaps that’s exactly why Sony is doing this: to boost sales.

The Saros Zenith update is scheduled to arrive on the PlayStation 5 sometime this year. Don’t expect a PC port, though; Sony has turned its back on that platform months ago.
